The inevitable day trip to Uruguay from Buenos Aires! A highly recommended activity for all budget travelers! It was a fun day, I must say going to Colonia Del Sacramento is definitely a day trip, it can be done rather quickly, but based on boat times, you will probably be there for 8 hours, at least under the current schedule. If you are staying in Uruguay by all means it would be a pleasant place to spend a night, but due to it's small size, a few hours is more than enough for most travelers. Here's how I made the most of my time, and as always a few travel tips.
-The walled city, about a fifteen minute walk from the boat terminal will bring you to the historic walled city, get a nice photo of the old gates
-Check out the beach, the water is nice, and not too cold, but it's not really a beach to swim in so just enjoy the ambiance.
-Have a coffeee, why not? You have 8 hours to kill, so you may have time for two coffees.
-Street art, this was a pleasant surprise, walking around the old city there is a lot of fantastic murals.
-Not sure if this is regularly here... but I've never seen it anywhere else in my travels...
-Quick museum stop....
-Quick walk on the pier...
-I recommend ocean front lunch :)
-Of course walk around the old city
-Last tip I actually didn't see anywhere on other blogs, you may have got some Uruguay pesos while you were there, as you are leaving, there's a machine type casino, go and try your luck to burn off the money, or maybe win it big!
So truth be told I wish the boat times were better as 8 hours here was a lot, but that being said, it's still great to see and I highly recommend. The country of Uruguay deserves more of a visit than just a few hours in a really small town, but I will save that adventure for another time.

Bye for now Uruguay! |
